Darren Millar, Leader of the Welsh Conservatives and Clwyd West MS, and Sam Rowlands, Member of the Welsh Parliament for North Wales, visited Coleg Llysfasi, near Ruthin, last week to see first-hand the college’s impressive new facilities.
Darren Millar and Sam Rowlands were given a tour of the college’s new £10m agriculture and learning centre, showcasing recent investment in modern, high-quality education and vocational training for young people across North Wales.
Staff at the college also expressed concerns over the Welsh Government’s plans for post-16 home-to-education transport and the potential impact of policy changes on rural learners, particularly around affordability and access.
Speaking after the visit, Darren Millar, said:
It was a pleasure to return to Coleg Llysfasi to see the new facilities that are now on offer to students.
I enjoyed visiting the college last May while its new facilities were under construction so to see the state-of-the-art facilities now being used by students is fantastic.
Llysfasi is a leader in land-based education and it is clear that its leadership is committed to fully supporting their learners and the wider agricultural community as they focus on sustainable farming for the future.
I also welcomed the opportunity to discuss post-16 home-to-education transport and will certainly follow this up with the Welsh Government.
The new facilities are a testament to the college’s ambition and the talent of its staff and students, and I wish them well.
Sam Rowlands, who is also the Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Transport, said:
I would like to thank the team at Coleg Llysfasi for welcoming myself and Darren recently.
The major development is extremely impressive and I enjoyed hearing more about how the new facilities and teaching methods are benefitting both students and teachers.
I also appreciated hearing the views of staff regarding post-16 home-to-education transport and it is important that young people in rural areas are not disadvantaged when it comes to accessing education.
We will continue to press the Welsh Government to guarantee fair and consistent transport support for post-16 students, ensuring that no one is forced to miss out on further education because of where they live.

Yr wythnos diwethaf, bu Darren Millar, Arweinydd y Ceidwadwyr Cymreig ac AS Gorllewin Clwyd, a Sam Rowlands, yr Aelod o’r Senedd dros y Gogledd, ar ymweliad â Choleg Llysfasi, ger Rhuthun, i weld cyfleusterau newydd trawiadol y coleg.
Cafodd Darren Millar a Sam Rowlands daith o amgylch canolfan amaethyddiaeth a dysgu newydd gwerth £10m y coleg, sy’n arwydd o’i fuddsoddiad diweddar mewn addysg fodern, o ansawdd uchel a hyfforddiant galwedigaethol i bobl ifanc ledled y Gogledd.
Mynegodd staff y coleg bryderon hefyd ynglŷn â chynlluniau Llywodraeth Cymru ar gyfer cludiant o’r cartref i leoliad addysg ôl-16 ac effaith bosibl newidiadau i’r polisi hwn ar ddysgwyr gwledig, yn enwedig o ran fforddiadwyedd a mynediad.
Ar ôl yr ymweliad, dywedodd Darren Millar:
Roedd yn bleser dychwelyd i Goleg Llysfasi i weld y cyfleusterau newydd sydd bellach ar gael i fyfyrwyr.
Fe wnes i fwynhau ymweld â'r coleg fis Mai diwethaf, ar adeg adeiladu’r cyfleusterau newydd, felly mae gweld y cyfleusterau arloesol hyn bellach yn cael eu defnyddio gan fyfyrwyr yn wych.
Mae Llysfasi yn geffyl blaen ym maes addysg ar y tir ac mae'n amlwg bod ei arweinwyr wedi ymrwymo i gefnogi eu dysgwyr a'r gymuned amaethyddol ehangach yn llawn wrth iddyn nhw ganolbwyntio ar ffermio cynaliadwy ar gyfer y dyfodol.
Fe wnes i hefyd groesawu’r cyfle i drafod cludiant o’r cartref i leoliad addysg ôl-16 a byddaf yn sicr yn mynd i’r afael â hynny gyda Llywodraeth Cymru.
Mae'r cyfleusterau newydd yn tystio i uchelgais y coleg a thalent ei staff a'i fyfyrwyr, ac rwy'n dymuno'n dda iddyn nhw.
Meddai Sam Rowlands, sydd hefyd yn Ysgrifennydd Cabinet yr Wrthblaid dros Drafnidiaeth:
Hoffwn ddiolch i'r tîm yng Ngholeg Llysfasi am groesawu Darren a minnau yn ddiweddar.
Mae'r datblygiad mawr hwn yn hynod drawiadol ac fe wnes i fwynhau clywed mwy am sut mae'r cyfleusterau a'r dulliau addysgu newydd o fudd i fyfyrwyr ac athrawon.
Fe wnes i hefyd werthfawrogi clywed barn staff ynghylch cludiant o’r cartref i leoliad addysg ôl-16 ac mae’n bwysig nad yw pobl ifanc mewn ardaloedd gwledig dan anfantais o ran gallu cael mynediad at addysg.
Byddwn yn parhau i bwyso ar Lywodraeth Cymru i warantu cymorth cludiant teg a chyson i fyfyrwyr ôl-16, gan sicrhau nad oes yr un person ifanc yn cael ei orfodi i golli addysg bellach oherwydd lle mae’n byw.
