Sam Rowlands, Member of the Welsh Parliament for North Wales, is urging writers and researchers to apply for the opportunity to study and stay at the historic Gladstone’s Library in Hawarden.
Applications are currently open for 21 scholarships at the library with successful applicants spending up to two weeks there and using the three Reading Rooms, thousands of books and archival collections items as well as the on-site restaurant in 2026.
Mr Rowlands said:
I am a great supporter of this fantastic library which is a wonderful place to spend time and soak in the atmosphere of this old and famous building.
These scholarships provide researchers and writers the opportunity to study and stay at this lovely facility surrounded by thousands of excellent and famous collections of books to read.
Gladstone’s Library is a national treasure with the historic building attracting people from far and wide to study and stay and well worth a visit.
Gladstone’s Library is the UK’s finest residential library, with 26 bedrooms, an on-site restaurant and a comfortable guest lounge. It is the UK’s only Prime Ministerial library, built following a bequest from four times Prime Minister of Great Britain, William Ewart Gladstone.
The world-famous Reading Rooms house thousands of books including items from Gladstone’s own personal library and offer protected study spaces in which to read, think and work. They are accessible to registered Readers, Researchers and residents.
The current building, raised in 1902 and designed by John Douglas, was funded by public subscription. It is home to unique archival collections, making it a destination for scholars from across the globe. Gladstone’s Library is a self-sustaining registered charity; every booking and donation made helps maintain the Grade I listed building and the collections it protects.

Ar hyn o bryd mae ceisiadau ar agor ar gyfer 21 ysgoloriaeth yn y llyfrgell gydag ymgeiswyr llwyddiannus yn treulio hyd at bythefnos yno ac yn defnyddio'r tair Ystafell Ddarllen, miloedd o lyfrau ac eitemau o’r casgliadau archif, heb sôn am y bwyty ar y safle yn 2026.
Meddai Mr Rowlands:

Llyfrgell Gladstone yw llyfrgell breswyl orau y DU, gyda 26 ystafell wely, bwyty ar y safle a lolfa gyfforddus i westeion. Dyma'r unig lyfrgell Prif Weinidogol yn y DU, a adeiladwyd yn dilyn cymynrodd gan Brif Weinidog Prydain bedair gwaith, William Ewart Gladstone.
