Sam Rowlands, Member of the Welsh Parliament for North Wales,  has welcomed news that Wrexham University is hosting this years’ annual Therapeutic Child Care conference.

Research centred around a project designed to support emotion regulation for children and young people through engaging activities will be one of the keynote topics at the conference next month.

Mr Rowlands said:

I am delighted to see Wrexham University continuing to flourish and become a major player in important research and projects.

These days more than ever it is vital that children and young people have the support they need and it is great to see local schools being involved in the pilot project.

It is good to see the university is once again helping to put Wrexham and North Wales firmly on the map.

Wrexham University is organising the conference in collaboration with The Consortium for Therapeutic Communities.

Dr Tegan Brierley-Sollis, Lecturer in Policing, Criminology and Trauma-Informed approaches at the University, will give a keynote talk focussed on a pilot project taking place in a number of schools across North Wales, where children are using a workbook, based on an animation entitled ‘Navigating the Storm’.

The pilot is being led by Dr Brierley-Sollis and Lisa Formby, Research Lead for Education, with support from staff from a number of subject areas and departments from across the University, including Criminology, Education, the TrACE (Trauma and Adverse Childhood Experience) team, Civic Mission and Recruitment teams.

The workbook can be delivered in the classroom or tailored for one-to-one settings with children and young people, and includes a range of activities to encourage emotional processing and regulation, such as arts and crafts, music-based activities, mindfulness and more.

Dr Brierley-Sollis will present the project findings and insights at the tenth annual Therapeutic Child Care conference, taking place on Friday, May 2 at Wrexham University, which is aimed at practitioners involved in the care, support and education of children and young people.

Dr Vivienne Dacre, Principal Lecturer and Programme Leader in Therapeutic Child Care at Wrexham University, who is one of the organisers of the conference, said:

This one-day event is a fantastic continuing professional development (CPD) opportunity for practitioners, to empower them to feel confident that they have the tools they need to support the children and young people that they work with.

The aim of this year’s conference is to highlight the importance of understanding what we collectively need to put in place to prevent or minimise the risk of any negative health or social outcomes, of things such as adverse childhood experiences, traumatic events and environments that can cause harm.

More information about the conference, including how to book your place, can be found here.

Sam Rowlands AS yn falch o weld cynhadledd bwysig yn cael ei chynnal yn y Gogledd

Mae Sam Rowlands, yr Aelod o’r Senedd ros Ogledd Cymru, wedi croesawu'r newyddion fod Prifysgol Wrecsam yn cynnal cynhadledd flynyddol Gofal Plant Therapiwtig eleni.

Bydd ymchwil seiliedig ar brosiect sydd â’r nod o gefnogi sut mae plant a phobl ifanc yn gallu rheoleiddio eu hemosiynau drwy weithgareddau diddorol yn un o'r prif bynciau yn y gynhadledd fis nesaf.

Meddai Mr Rowlands:

Rwy'n falch iawn o weld Prifysgol Wrecsam yn parhau i ffynnu ac i fod yn geffyl blaen ym maes ymchwil a phrosiectau pwysig.

Mae’n fwy hanfodol nag erioed bod plant a phobl ifanc yn cael y gefnogaeth sydd ei hangen arnyn nhw ac mae'n wych gweld ysgolion lleol yn cymryd rhan yn y prosiect peilot.

Mae'n dda gweld bod y brifysgol unwaith eto yn helpu i roi Wrecsam a Gogledd Cymru yn gadarn ar y map.

Mae Prifysgol Wrecsam yn trefnu'r gynhadledd mewn cydweithrediad â'r Consortiwm ar gyfer Cymunedau Therapiwtig.

Bydd Dr Tegan Brierley-Sollis, Darlithydd mewn Plismona, Troseddeg a Dulliau Gwybodus am Drawma yn y Brifysgol, yn rhoi’r prif anerchiad gan ganolbwyntio ar brosiect peilot sy'n cael ei gynnal mewn nifer o ysgolion ledled y Gogledd, lle mae plant yn defnyddio llyfr gwaith, yn seiliedig ar animeiddiad o'r enw ‘Navigating the Storm’.

Mae'r cynllun peilot yn cael ei arwain gan Dr Brierley-Sollis a Lisa Formby, Arweinydd Ymchwil ar gyfer Addysg, gyda chefnogaeth gan staff o nifer o feysydd pwnc ac adrannau o bob rhan o'r Brifysgol, gan gynnwys Troseddeg, Addysg, tîm TrACE (Trawma a Phrofiad Niweidiol yn ystod Plentyndod), timau Cenhadaeth Ddinesig a Recriwtio.

Gellir cyflwyno'r llyfr gwaith yn yr ystafell ddosbarth neu ei deilwra ar gyfer lleoliadau un-i-un gyda phlant a phobl ifanc, ac mae'n cynnwys ystod o weithgareddau i annog prosesu a rheoleiddio emosiynol, megis celf a chrefft, gweithgareddau sy'n seiliedig ar gerddoriaeth, ymwybyddiaeth ofalgar a mwy.

Bydd Dr Brierley-Sollis yn cyflwyno canfyddiadau a mewnwelediadau'r prosiect yn negfed gynhadledd flynyddol Gofal Plant Therapiwtig, a gynhelir ddydd Gwener, 2 Mai ym Mhrifysgol Wrecsam, sydd wedi'i hanelu at ymarferwyr sy'n gysylltiedig â gofal, cefnogi ac addysgu plant a phobl ifanc.

Meddai Dr Vivienne Dacre, Prif Ddarlithydd ac Arweinydd y Rhaglen Gofal Plant Therapiwtig ym Mhrifysgol Wrecsam, sy'n un o drefnwyr y gynhadledd:

Mae'r digwyddiad undydd hwn yn gyfle gwych am ddatblygiad proffesiynol parhaus (DPP) i ymarferwyr, gan eu grymuso i deimlo'n hyderus bod ganddyn nhw’r adnoddau sydd eu hangen i gefnogi'r plant a'r bobl ifanc y maen nhw’n gweithio gyda nhw.

Nod y gynhadledd eleni yw tynnu sylw at bwysigrwydd deall yr hyn sydd angen i ni ei roi ar waith er mwyn atal neu leihau'r risg o unrhyw ganlyniadau iechyd neu gymdeithasol negyddol, yn sgil pethau fel profiadau niweidiol yn ystod plentyndod, digwyddiadau trawmatig ac amgylcheddau a all achosi niwed.

Gellir dod o hyd i ragor o wybodaeth am y gynhadledd, gan gynnwys sut i gadw’ch lle yma.
