Sam Rowlands, Member of the Welsh Parliament for North Wales, is urging his constituents to have their say on the future of three public toilets in Flintshire.
Mr Rowlands, who has previously expressed his concern at the possible closure of the toilets in Holywell, Mold and Talacre was commenting after Flintshire County Council launched a public consultation on the future of the three sites.
He said:
I was extremely concerned in September when I heard that Flintshire County Council were planning to close public toilets at three popular sites; the Bus Station in Mold, just off the High Street in Holywell and Station Road in Talacre.
Residents in these towns were quite rightly up in arms about the possibility of losing their toilets and it is only right and proper that the public’s views should be considered on this issue.
All three places are popular destinations not just for local people but tourists as well.
We really can’t expect people to come and visit our towns if we don’t provide this basic amenity.
I would urge anyone who has a view on the future of these toilets and wants them to be kept open to take part in the consultation which is running until Tuesday 2nd December.
In February 2025 Flintshire County Council set its budget for 2025/26 and difficult choices needed to be considered including reducing the budget for running public toilets.
While there is no legal requirement for county councils in Wales to provide public toilets, under the Public Health (Wales) Act 2017, they do have to produce a Local Toilet Strategy setting out how people can access toilets in the community.
Flintshire County Council can no longer afford to keep these public toilets running and is open to working with volunteer or community groups, town or community councils, businesses, organisations, or any combination of each, to come up with ideas/actions to maintain access to community toilet facilities in these areas.
The consultation was launched on Wednesday November 5 and will run until Tuesday December 2 and is open to everyone to have their say.
More information about the consultation can be found on the Council’s website www.flintshire.gov.uk/PublicToilets2025
Sam Rowlands AS yn cefnogi ymgynghoriad ar doiledau cyhoeddus yn y Gogledd-ddwyrain
Mae Sam Rowlands, AS Gogledd Cymru, yn annog ei etholwyr i ddweud eu dweud ar ddyfodol tri thoiled cyhoeddus yn Sir y Fflint.
Roedd Mr Rowlands, sydd wedi mynegi ei bryder o'r blaen ynglŷn â chau'r toiledau yn Nhreffynnon, yr Wyddgrug a Thalacre yn siarad ar ôl i Gyngor Sir y Fflint lansio ymgynghoriad cyhoeddus ar ddyfodol y tri safle.
Dywedodd:
Roeddwn i'n bryderus iawn ym mis Medi pan glywais fod Cyngor Sir y Fflint yn bwriadu cau toiledau cyhoeddus mewn tri safle poblogaidd; yr Orsaf Fysiau yn yr Wyddgrug, ychydig oddi ar Heol Fawr yn Nhreffynnon a Station Road yn Nhalacre.
Roedd trigolion yn y trefi hyn yn iawn i fod yn gynddeiriog ynglŷn â'r posibilrwydd o golli eu toiledau ac mae'n iawn ac yn briodol i ystyried barn y cyhoedd ar y mater hwn.
Mae'r tri lle yn gyrchfannau poblogaidd nid yn unig i bobl leol ond i dwristiaid hefyd.
Allwn ni ddim disgwyl i bobl ddod i ymweld â'n trefi os nad ydyn ni’n darparu'r amwynder sylfaenol hwn.
Byddwn yn annog unrhyw un sydd â barn ar ddyfodol y toiledau hyn ac eisiau iddynt gael eu cadw ar agor i gymryd rhan yn yr ymgynghoriad sy'n rhedeg tan ddydd Mawrth 2 Rhagfyr.
Ym mis Chwefror 2025, pennodd Cyngor Sir y Fflint ei gyllideb ar gyfer 2025/26 ac roedd angen ystyried dewisiadau anodd gan gynnwys lleihau'r gyllideb i redeg toiledau cyhoeddus.
Er nad oes yna ofyniad cyfreithiol bod cynghorau sir yng Nghymru yn darparu toiledau cyhoeddus, o dan Ddeddf Iechyd y Cyhoedd (Cymru) 2017, mae'n rhaid iddynt gynhyrchu Strategaeth Toiledau Lleol sy'n nodi sut y gall pobl ddefnyddio toiledau yn y gymuned.
Bellach, ni all Cyngor Sir y Fflint fforddio i barhau i redeg y toiledau cyhoeddus yma, ac mae’n agored i weithio gyda grwpiau gwirfoddol neu grwpiau cymunedol, cynghorau tref neu gymuned, busnesau, sefydliadau, neu unrhyw gyfuniad o bob un, i gael syniadau i barhau i gynnal mynediad i gyfleusterau toiledau cyhoeddus yn yr ardaloedd yma.
Lansiwyd yr ymgynghoriad ddydd Mercher 5 Tachwedd a bydd yn rhedeg tan ddydd Mawrth 2 Rhagfyr ac mae'n agored i bawb ddweud eu dweud.
Mae rhagor o wybodaeth am yr ymgynghoriad ar gael ar wefan y Cyngor www.siryfflint.gov.uk/PublicToilets2025
