Sam Rowlands, Member of the Welsh Parliament for North Wales, is calling for the toxic tourism tax to be axed.

A recent Finance Committee report into the Welsh Government’s incoming ‘visitor levy’ included testimonies and views expressing considerable concerns with the bill from organisations such as ScoutsCymru, Wales Tourism Alliance, the Federation of Small Businesses and others.

Welsh Conservatives continue to argue that the policy must be “axed” to renew confidence in the tourism sector and drive improvements in the Welsh economy.

Mr Rowlands, Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Finance and Chairman of the Cross-Party Group on Tourism, said:

I have said time and time again that this is a ridiculous idea and that charging visitors more money will have a detrimental affect on tourism especially in North Wales.

I recently met with business owners in the Wrexham area who are extremely concerned about the impact this proposed levy could have on their livelihoods. The Clywdian Range Tourism Group are also extremely worried about the prospect of this controversial visitor tax.

At a meeting recently the tourism group said they were launching a campaign and appealing for business owners to get in touch with them to show their support.

It's clear that Labour’s toxic tourism tax must be axed.

The Welsh Labour Government’s own commissioned figures highlight the multi-million-pound risk to the economy, coupled with hundreds of potential job losses.

Tourism is a major employer in North Wales, yet the Labour Welsh Government continue to hamper its growth with its crippling 182 day holiday let regulations and the soon to be introduced tourism tax.

It really is about time we promoted our country and supported the thousands of people who live and work in the tourism sector.

Sam Rowlands AS yn annog Llywodraeth Cymru i roi’r gorau i gynlluniau ar gyfer ardoll ymwelwyr

Mae Sam Rowlands, yr Aelod o'r Senedd dros Ogledd Cymru, yn galw am ddileu'r dreth dwristiaeth wenwynig.

Roedd adroddiad diweddar y Pwyllgor Cyllid i 'ardoll ymwelwyr' arfaethedig Llywodraeth Cymru yn cynnwys tystiolaeth a safbwyntiau yn mynegi pryderon sylweddol ynglŷn â'r bil gan sefydliadau fel ScoutsCymru, Cynghrair Twristiaeth Cymru, Ffederasiwn y Busnesau Bach ac eraill.

Mae'r Ceidwadwyr Cymreig yn dal i ddadlau bod rhaid rhoi'r fwyell i'r polisi er mwyn adfer hyder y sector twristiaeth a llywio gwelliannau yn economi Cymru.

Dywedodd Mr Rowlands, Ysgrifennydd Cabinet yr Wrthblaid dros Gyllid a Chadeirydd y Grŵp Trawsbleidiol ar Dwristiaeth:

Rwyf wedi dweud droeon bod hwn yn syniad chwerthinllyd ac y bydd codi mwy o arian ar ymwelwyr yn cael effaith niweidiol ar dwristiaeth yn enwedig yn y Gogledd.

Yn ddiweddar, cefais gyfarfod gyda pherchnogion busnes ardal Wrecsam sy'n poeni'n fawr am effaith bosibl yr ardoll arfaethedig ar eu bywoliaeth. Mae Grŵp Twristiaeth Bryniau Clwyd hefyd yn bryderus iawn am y dreth ymwelwyr ddadleuol hon.

Mewn cyfarfod diweddar dywedodd y grŵp twristiaeth eu bod nhw'n lansio ymgyrch ac yn apelio ar berchnogion busnes i gysylltu â nhw i ddangos eu cefnogaeth.

Mae'n amlwg bod yn rhaid rhoi’r gorau i'r dreth dwristiaeth wenwynig hon gan Llafur Cymru.

Mae ffigurau a gomisiynwyd gan Lywodraeth Llafur Cymru ei hun yn tynnu sylw at y risg o filiynau o bunnoedd i'r economi, ynghyd â'r posibilrwydd o golli cannoedd o swyddi.

Mae twristiaeth yn gyflogwr pwysig yng ngogledd Cymru, ond mae Llywodraeth Lafur Cymru yn parhau i rwystro ei thwf gyda'i rheoliadau gosod llety gwyliau 182 diwrnod a'r dreth dwristiaeth a gaiff ei chyflwyno cyn bo hir.

Mae'n hen bryd i ni hyrwyddo ein gwlad a chefnogi'r miloedd o bobl sy'n byw ac yn gweithio yn y sector twristiaeth.
