Sam Rowlands

Sam Rowlands, Member of the Welsh Parliament for North Wales, has been discovering the recently opened Heart of Africa zone at Chester Zoo.

Mr Rowlands, who also chairs the Senedd’s Cross-Party Group on Tourism, was invited to visit the largest UK zoo habitat ever created which is just across the border from North Wales.

He said:

I was delighted to have the opportunity to be shown around the new Heart of Africa zone by Cameron Stephenson, the zoo’s Senior Public Affairs Advisor who told me all about the new amazing development.

It is great to have such a wonderful tourist attraction so close to North Wales and I enjoyed a fantastic experience. I was also pleased to hear that a number of people from North Wales are also employed there and as the zoo continues to grow I am sure there will be even more job opportunities.

That is why I continually call for improved transport links from North Wales to the North-West as we need to make sure that the infrastructure is there for people travelling to work or visiting from across the border.

Chester Zoo is already a major tourist attraction and the new Heart of Africa zone will be another reason for people to visit Chester and hopefully many more people will be tempted to visit North Wales.

Heart of Africa is Chester Zoo’s newest and most immersive experience, where African landscapes, species and culture come to life across 22 acres, an area of more than 17 football pitches.

The new area has been designed to recreate a variety of grassland habitats found across central Africa and is among the most ambitious zoo expansions ever undertaken in Europe. Taking centre stage is a vast open savannah where, for the first time at the zoo, visitors will encounter northern giraffes, Grevy’s zebras, roan antelopes and ostriches, all living together side-by-side.

In addition to the remarkable wildlife experiences, Heart of Africa also features Pamoja Village, a vibrant cultural space offering a taste of African traditions, from authentic street food to immersive storytelling from the wild. It aims to not only create a deeper appreciation for Africa’s wildlife, but also for the communities that live alongside it.

The zoo’s latest attraction, The Reserve, offers people the chance to stay in luxury lodges right in the heart of this piece of Africa with bookings now being taken for when it opens in August.

Sam Rowlands AS yn ymweld ag atyniad twristiaid mawr dros y ffin o’r Gogledd

Mae Sam Rowlands, yr Aelod o’r Senedd dros Ogledd Cymru, wedi ymweld â’r ardal Heart of Africa a agorwyd yn ddiweddar yn Sw Caer.

Gwahoddwyd Mr Rowlands, sydd hefyd yn cadeirio Grŵp Trawsbleidiol y Senedd ar Dwristiaeth, i ymweld â'r cynefin sw mwyaf a grëwyd erioed yn y DU sydd ychydig dros y ffin o’r Gogledd.

Dywedodd:

Roeddwn i’n falch iawn o gael y cyfle i gael fy nhywys o amgylch yr ardal Heart of Africa newydd gan Cameron Stephenson, Uwch Gynghorydd Materion Cyhoeddus y sw, a ddywedodd wrthyf am y datblygiad anhygoel newydd.

Mae'n wych cael atyniad twristiaid mor wych sydd mor agos at y Gogledd ac fe wnes i fwynhau pob eiliad o’r profiad gwych. Roeddwn i hefyd yn falch o glywed bod nifer o bobl o’r Gogledd yn cael eu cyflogi yno ac, wrth i'r sw barhau i dyfu, rwy'n siŵr y bydd hyd yn oed mwy o gyfleoedd gwaith.

Dyna pam rwy'n galw byth a hefyd am well cysylltiadau trafnidiaeth o’r Gogledd i Ogledd-orllewin Lloegr gan fod angen i ni wneud yn siŵr bod y seilwaith yno i bobl sy'n teithio i'r gwaith neu'n ymweld o dros y ffin.

Mae Sw Caer eisoes yn atyniad twristiaid mawr a bydd yr ardal Heart of Africa newydd yn rheswm arall i bobl ymweld â Chaer, a gobeithio y bydd llawer mwy o bobl yn cael eu denu i ymweld â’r Gogledd.

Heart of Africa yw profiad mwyaf newydd Sw Caer sy’n cynnig cyfle anhygoel i ymgolli, lle mae tirweddau, rhywogaethau a diwylliant Affricanaidd yn dod yn fyw ar draws 22 erw, ardal o fwy na 17 cae pêl-droed.

Dyluniwyd yr ardal newydd i ail-greu amrywiaeth o gynefinoedd glaswelltir a geir ledled canolbarth Affrica, ac mae ymhlith y prosiectau sw mwyaf uchelgeisiol erioed yn Ewrop. Yr uchafbwynt yw safana agored enfawr lle, am y tro cyntaf yn y sw, bydd ymwelwyr yn dod ar draws jiraffod, sebras, antelopiaid broc ac estrys, i gyd yn byw gyda'i gilydd.

Yn ogystal â'r profiadau bywyd gwyllt rhyfeddol, mae Heart of Africa hefyd yn cynnwys Pamoja Village, gofod diwylliannol bywiog sy'n cynnig blas ar draddodiadau Affricanaidd, o fwyd stryd dilys i straeon ymgolli o’r gwyllt. Ei nod yw creu gwerthfawrogiad dyfnach o fywyd gwyllt Affrica, ond hefyd o’r cymunedau sy'n byw ochr yn ochr â’r bywyd gwyllt hwnnw.

Mae atyniad diweddaraf y sw, The Reserve, yn cynnig cyfle i bobl aros mewn porthdai moethus yng nghanol y rhan fach hon o Affrica, a gellir eu harchebu nawr yn barod ar gyfer yr agoriad swyddogol ym mis Awst.
