Sam Rowlands, Member of the Welsh Parliament for North Wales, says he is seriously concerned over the Welsh Government’s pledge to expand the bus network and introduce a £2 bus fare cap if they win the next Senedd election.

Mr Rowlands, Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Finance, Transport and Infrastructure, has criticised the announcement and said:

The Welsh Labour Government has had over 27 years to improve our bus network especially in rural areas yet this had not happened, in fact judging from the many emails I receive about this service, it is getting worse.

My constituency of North Wales has many rural areas where they still do not have a reliable bus service or nothing at all.

For the Welsh Government to say they will look at improving this and introduce a £2 bus fare cap if they are in power after the May elections is unbelievable.

They are running the country now and should be getting on with it as opposed to making this a post-election promise.

It was the UK Conservative Government that first introduced the £2 bus fare cap, back in 2023, three years ago. Labour’s Rachel Reeves, raised the cap by 50%, to £3.

The Welsh Labour Government, propped up routinely by Plaid Cymru, cannot be trusted to expand the bus network to more rural areas outside of their electoral heartlands, as they have repeatedly failed to for 27 years – only the Welsh Conservatives can.

Sam Rowlands AS yn rhybuddio pobl yn y Gogledd na ellir ymddiried yn Llywodraeth Lafur Cymru

Mae Sam Rowlands, AS Gogledd Cymru, yn dweud ei fod yn bryderus iawn am addewid Llywodraeth Cymru i ehangu'r rhwydwaith bysiau a chyflwyno cap o £2 ar docynnau bws os byddan nhw'n ennill etholiad nesaf y Senedd.

Mae Mr Rowlands, Ysgrifennydd Cabinet yr Wrthblaid dros Gyllid, Trafnidiaeth a Seilwaith, wedi beirniadu'r cyhoeddiad gan ddweud:

Mae Llywodraeth Lafur Cymru wedi cael dros 27 mlynedd i wella ein rhwydwaith bysiau, yn enwedig mewn ardaloedd gwledig, ond nid yw hyn wedi digwydd. Mewn gwirionedd ac o ystyried nifer y negeseuon e-bost rwy'n eu cael am y gwasanaeth hwn, mae'r sefyllfa’n gwaethygu.

Mae gan fy etholaeth yn y Gogledd lawer o ardaloedd gwledig lle nad oes ganddyn nhw wasanaeth bws dibynadwy, neu ddim gwasanaeth o gwbl.

Mae’r ffaith bod Llywodraeth Cymru yn dweud y bydd yn ystyried gwella hyn a chyflwyno cap o £2 ar docynnau bws os byddan nhw mewn grym ar ôl etholiadau mis Mai yn anghredadwy.

Maen nhw'n rhedeg y wlad nawr a dylen nhw ganolbwyntio ar wneud hynny nawr yn hytrach na gwneud addewid fel hyn ar gyfer ar ôl yr etholiad.

Llywodraeth Geidwadol y DU a gyflwynodd y cap o £2 ar docynnau bws am y tro cyntaf, yn ôl yn 2023, dair blynedd yn ôl. Cododd Rachel Reeves o’r Blaid Lafur y cap 50%, i £3.

Ni ellir ymddiried yn Llywodraeth Lafur Cymru, sy'n cael ei chefnogi'n rheolaidd gan Blaid Cymru, i ehangu'r rhwydwaith bysiau i ardaloedd mwy gwledig y tu allan i'w chadarnleoedd etholiadol, fel maen nhw wedi methu ei wneud dro ar ôl tro ers 27 mlynedd – dim ond y Ceidwadwyr Cymreig all wneud hynny.
